I love #running across #history.

This road surely *was* one: leading right past #Bramber #castle, headed for #Portslade - perhaps named because "portus ladda " (way to the port).

Stay tuned for much more #VirtualTravel and #motivation to get out there with It's in the Signs.

The only #travel I can do right now is #VirtualTravel. Last summer, I made my way through parts of eastern and southern Calabria. Here's some highlights from my visit to Rossano, home to the famous Rossano Gospels manuscript.

The ruins of the Abbey of Santa Maria della Roccella dominate the site. Built in the Norman period (11th/12th c.) it was one of the largest abbeys in #Calabria. Its triple apse is still largely intact. #architecture #archaeology #travel #VirtualTravel #Italy
Scolacium became a Roman colony in 124 BCE. The emperor Nerva (96-98 CE) sent a new crop of colonists there. Here's a view of the Roman theater. #archaeology #VirtualTravel #travel #Italy #history
Picking up my #VirtualTravel itinerary through #Calabria 🇮🇹 after something of a hiatus... Jamu! #travel #Italy

About a 15 minute walk from Catanzaro's cathedral is the Museo delle Arti di #Catanzaro (MARCA). Opened in 2008, the museum specializes in paintings and sculptures from the 1500s to the 1900s, including works by Battistello Caracciolo, Mattia Preti, Salvator Rosa and Andrea Sacchi.

Catanzaro is the city of the three V's. One of those is the city's patron, San Vitaliano. He was the bishop of Capua but his relics were transferred to Catanzaro in 1122. A chapel in the cathedral holds this silver reliquary. His feast day is July 16.

Another museum in #Catanzaro worth visiting is the Museo del Rock which celebrates 20th century music. Over 10,000 vinyl records, posters, and magazines from a private collection are on display. And lots of live music! #VirtualTravel
