WikiApiary is back online after having been down and overloaded for a long time.

Bawolff brought it back and did a ton of full stack performance work to optimise the whole system. Adding HTTP caching, tuning InnoDB, and more!

Giving WikiApiary a kick

A few days ago I was listening to some of the talks at MUDCon (The MediaWiki conference aimed at non-Wikimedia uses of MediaWiki). During J...

Hmmm,

My impression was that #Varnish Software would be based off on the #VinylCache upstream.

But now it seems like they have effectively created a new "varnish" repository where they intend to follow upstream, with their own patches *and* features vinyl doesn't want?

I already see changed not upstreamed, and they seem to be pushing for existing varnish packages to point to the "new" upstream?

@kly i agree, in particular about the people. i like them and they do good work.

but as much as i try to avoid becoming an arrogant asshole, i would go one step further: what we do in the open, keeping feature parity in many aspects and sometimes exceeding the closed source fork in features and/or performance, even helps those who decide to use the closed fork: only because the alternative exists ready to be fired up is the oracle-ification potential rather limited.
#vinylcache

Why did #varnishcache change it's name to #vinylcache ?

The identity is now live on the newly revamped Vinyl Cache website: https://vinyl-cache.org

It’s also released under a Creative Commons license to guarantee that the open source project can use it freely.

Oh and finally: they actually had a new software release today, have a look below!

Thanks a lot to @slink especially as well as the rest of the @vinyl_cache team for your trust! It has been a pleasure to work on this, can’t wait to see where it’s going :)

It isn’t just the logo :)

Meet the Vinyl Ghost, a new mascot for the project.

A mystic but friendly creature who nests on web servers. Like hermit crabs, it caches itself underneath a sheet of vinyl. Yet, it’s always out there to lend a hand delivering webpages.

I drew the mascot in a few different poses and expressions, with possibilities to create more in the future!

And of course, visual identity classics: colour palette, typeface selection.

Happy to share a project I have been working on: a new visual identity for Vinyl Cache!

Installed in front of a web server, it makes websites faster to load.

The new logo stems from a simple concept: Vinyl Cache protects the server just like vinyl film protects what it’s applied on.

The symbol combines a solid block representing the website and a translucent flexible layer as the cache. Together, they form a V monogram, along with a customised wordmark.
