another piece from class

A demonstration from class, A#WilliamKentridge style animated drawings in #vinecharcoal. I started doing this exercise with students to encourage them to embrace change, to realize that the goal isn't to finish or cover every inch of page, but to wrestle with the evolving context of the play of light and shadow across three-dimensional forms, to be comfortable with the notion that their efforts will always be incomplete, but might at best capture their process of looking.

Time for more #OldArt, #ArtSchool edition! From Feb, 2011:

"Our model didn’t show up for class today, so we went around the room and had classmates pose for us. It was so much fun drawing clothing for a change, as well as friends and people I know."

Using my favourite, vine charcoal, and kneaded eraser on newsprint. <3 I miss doing this!

A while ago I did a series of portraits expressing various human emotions, because I had noticed that most portraits exhibited either happy faces or blank ones. So I said to myself - let's see what else there is out there.

#Charcoal #portrait of a teenager - when finished it gave me ideas, so I used it as a starting point for an oil painting I'll post tomorrow.

One of my old portrait #drawings of two kids with their aunt at Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan, USA. Vine charcoal on Strathmore paper. From 2017, I think.
