Beautiful view of Hà Giang town from the hill and Km 0 - starting point of the "happiness road" (national highway 4C) and symbolic start of the famous Hà Giang loop.

It was on that loop that I first got in touch with wild tea seven years ago 🥹

More tea trees and stunning scenery in Hà Giang. It's an almost mystical atmosphere up there in the mist. The trees are estimated to be around 200 years old 🍃

It might have been the last tea trees I got to see on this trip - soon it's time to go further South.

My producers went back to Hanoi today with loads of tea. But we are staying up here in the mountains for a bit longer...let's see what we find...

We had sticky rice cakes for breakfast (a bit like mochi, but less sweet) and then off to another tea maker for tasting. On the last picture you can see a container built to smoke Lapsang Souchong style black tea.

My tea producers try to reduce the pruning, because it makes the trees weaker over time if done too heavily, but the local people owning the tea lands (mostly from the Dao minority) still do it because more buds will emerge 🍃

At the small tea factory. I arrived quite late and all the hand roasted tea had already been made. Still got to see some green and black tea making using machines for kill-green and drying.
