..rather than woodshed on the selections prior to entering the studio, the Oscar Peterson Trio spontaneously created impressions of the musical's themes on the spot. "Something's Coming" seems like a series of vignettes, constantly shifting its mood, as if moving from one scene to the next. Ray Brown plays arco bass behind Peterson in the lovely "Somewhere," while the feeling to "Jet Song" is very hip in the trio's hands. The snappy interplay between the musicians in the brisk setting of "Tonight" turns it into a swinger. "Maria" initially has a light, dreamy quality, though it evolves into a solid groove...

In Downbeat, Ira Gitler gave the record a perfect five-star rating and noted that the album marked two occasions: "the first recording by Getz since his return to the United States [and] a reunion with Brookmeyer, his partner of the mid-’50s."

Regarding their performances, Gitler writes "Getz and Brookmeyer are mature players, and everything they do on this record is in perfect balance... the most important factor in the success of this set is the ease with which these men communicate their thoughts and feelings to the audience. Ended the weekend and welcomed the week after a walk with Warm Wave an album by Latin jazz vibraphonist Cal Tjader fronting an orchestra arranged and conducted by Claus Ogerman recorded in 1964 and released on the Verve label.

The Allmusic review by Stephen Cook stated, "If an album ever betrayed Cal Tjader's affinity for former boss George Shearing's ultra-smooth cocktail style, then Warm Wave would be it ... this is less standard Latin lounge Tjader and more an analog to Jackie Gleason's polished easy-listening sound. Tjader's solos are so smooth, in fact, that they practically disappear into Claus Ogerman's opaque arrangements. After seven high-quality years with Blue Note, organist Jimmy Smith switched over to the Verve label...Got My Mojo Workin', finds the B-3 innovator mixing it up with organ and guitar combo swingers and big band charts compliments of arranger Oliver Nelson. On the first half of the disc, Smith delves into the day's chart-topping terrain with passable shots at the Stevie Wonder hit "High Heel Sneakers," Jagger and Richard's "Satisfaction," and the pop candy of "1-2-3.".. Aided by the stellar likes Kenny Burrell, Ernie Royal, Phil Woods, Ron Carter, and Grady Tate, Got My Mojo Workin' is not a top Smith release, but one dedicated fans will probably want to check out.

Stephen Cook reviewed the album for Allmusic and described the album as combining "the vibist's [Tjader's] Latin lounge style with kitschy Asian touches" describing the songs "Sake and Greens," "Cha," and "Shoji" as sounding like "'60s-era James Bond on a wild chase through the heart of Tokyo". Cook concluded by feeling that "The ultra-smooth Latin jazz sound Tjader favored has always been more infectious than demanding and Breeze from the East's commercialized mod/eastern elements only end up expanding the pop exotica mix". - Wikipedia
