🎉 Ah, the age-old debate resurrected! Why explain *what* the code does when you could just write clearer code to begin with? 🤔 But hey, let's reignite the flames with this groundbreaking revelation: maybe, just maybe, #comments should state the obvious too. 🔥 Because we all need more #verbose hand-holding, right? 🙄

Maybe Comments SHOULD Explain 'What'

People say “Comments should explain why, not what.” I feel like starting a flame war today so I’m going to argue that comments should explain ‘what’ too. Please don’t use this as justification to write bad code, okay? Okay. First of all, why shouldn’t comments explain ‘what’? If you need comments to explain what’s going on, it suggests your code is unclear. If I write //weight, radius, price w = 10, r = 9, p = 1 That’s not as clear as saying

🤡 Oh, look! It's yet another #verbose academic paper trying to decide if we should root for the rebel or the dictator. Spoiler: they never actually answer the question. Meanwhile, they pat themselves on the back for having a "mission" and "values" 🚀.

All four images have alt-text, but I'm VERY new to the whole #writing #alttext thing, so I'm sorry if it's really #verbose or overly descriptive.
@da_667 what a catty introduction to ids - I think running a js engine llike grey noise or bsd fingerprints is worth it too and pkt cap 24/7 #interesting #verbose

@adbenitez @opensourceopenmind #DeltaChat is federated via email, so #metadata-wise it is #verbose, I think (as #matrix is also verbose, maybe even more).

That's one of the advantages of #signal, that it is quite quiet on #metadata.

I think you could also check #briar, #SimpleXChat, or when it is ready #reticulum-based #LXMF when you just want to have other options and don't care about communicating with a wide audience which is not coming from a hacker bubble.

“Utility-first detractors complain a lot about how verbose this is and, consequently, how ugly. And it is indeed. But you’d forgive it that if it actually solved a problem, which it doesn’t. It is unequivocally an inferior way of making things which are alike look alike, as you should.”

“It turns out, people in tech are particularly bad at distinguishing between #paradigm shifts and paradigm sharts.”

@pws Yes, theoretically it should connect, but it seems more like an Android kernel or driver bug (in the area of legacy wifi backward compatibility) since the iPhone does connect.
Edit
However, now the iPhone is also having trouble connecting, so the congestion of the #accesspoint is to blame too.
Meanwhile I've activated #Android #DeveloperOptions for randomized mac and #verbose wifi registration and noticed a #standard=0 which is 802.11 not even g.
But it always connects under the 802.11n.

heyo!  #introduction time.  i tend to be #verbose, so i understand if my first #toot is seen as #tldr.

i have been a strict #vegan for 10 years.  my #family is small.  my only #son is an #electrical #engineer who is a #licensed #PE in 4 states.  i live with 3 #dogs - an older #yorkie and 2 much younger #biewer terriers.  i also keep an #aquatic #turtle and maintain a #worm #farm for him.

i'm twice #retired, first from the #military, and then from a #normal life.  i'm an #intel #alumnus, having spent 12 years in #post-silicon #validation of #processors and #chipsets.

i'm quite new to the #fediverse.  in #discord they call me #grey or #wolf.

in that #platform i'm either in several #Crypto servers, or in servers full of social/gaming #bots (the #OwO #bot is my #escape from the #ratrace).

I can totally ship our upcoming game with a 100-screen, 2400-word tutorial, right? No one would mind that. No. Of course not. People love to read and click through things. It's like… the most popular thing. 😄 #gameDev #verbose
