Creative impulses. The urge to be human.

In our modern world, a subtle influence is reinforced that we must be skilled at what we do. We must work well. We must perform well. We must sing well, dance well, make art well. Even in intuitive spaces, a fog of perfection pervades. It is not enough to just express something, we must also attenuate its expression so that it is palatable to others, to society.

If I were to hazard a guess, I would say this is why love and light is so heavily emphasized within spirituality. There’s an underlying desire to make things appear good and well. In order for us to have an enriched experience, we are sold the idea that we should forgo anything which is not positive.

With this Venus/Neptune conjunction I want you to rethink what is good and well. What if, instead of dancing well, you just danced? What if instead of singing well, you just sung? What if instead of painting well, you just create? What if instead of labelling a spiritual experience as good or bad, you just surrender to what is?

Humans need not do things well. They must only do. The must only be.

Affirming the self. The joys and sorrows of spiritual responsibility.

We’re being called to take on more, to step fully into our power. There’s an underlying appreciation for the shifts that are taking place, a deep joy for all that the future has in store. Manifestation is emerging.

But even in the light of dawn, darkness still remains. Uncertainty pierces through. Have we taken on too much? Have we overestimated our capabilities? What happens if we surpass our capacity to cope? When we step into our spiritual power, these all become real and infinitely tangible possibilities. Every increase in light paves the way for an even greater void of darkness to emerge. Our job as humans is to remain unafraid of our potential to collapse, to become shells of the people we once were. Those who have reached the deepest depths where barely any light remains are our strongest warriors. They guide us when we can no longer see the way through. They instil hope where there is none. They remind us that the greatest knowledge resides in the place very few have seldomly reached.

Will you give unto self-doubt or will you crawl even deeper to achieve your greatest potential?

Growing pains. Love for the self.

There are times where you need to give. There are times where you need to receive. Both are important, almost as important as the times where you find yourself lost in the sway of stagnancy. With Venus moving retrograde, you may find yourself caught in this sway more often than not.

Perhaps, on an external level, there is much to do. Internally however, maybe you’re not quite as able to get in touch with what you’re feeling or what you’re thinking. It’s as if you’ve become the undead. That’s not to say everyone will have a similar experience this Venus retrograde; humans are very different after all. If not the undead, perhaps you are one of the individuals who finds themselves occupying the alternate end of the spectrum. Maybe you’re more reactive, more prone to sudden outbursts. Perhaps your feeling life grows too big or becomes too overwhelming.

Make space for whatever emerges. Embrace numbness. Embrace reactivity. Let your emotions or your lack thereof teach you something about the space of the self. Let others emotions or lack thereof teach you something about space of the other.

Self love. Impulsive connections. Tapping into expansive modes of thought.

Traditionally Venus falls in its detriment in the sign of Aries (as its opposite Libra, the sign Venus naturally rules over). We’re a little bit more selfish when Venus occupies this sign. Selfishness is a quality often looked down upon, but for those who spend the majority of their time connecting with others, sometimes a self-centred break is necessary for the maintenance of close relationships and the fostering of community. There’s also a directness with Venus being in Aries. We’re less resistant to getting our hands dirty, more willing to be upfront when we see injustice. Venus in Aries asks us ‘what if you’re worth more than what you’re given credit for?’ It calls us to embrace being assertive, confident, and willful in our interactions with the world. Even in its detriment, Venus in Aries proves to be quite formidable.

At the same time, Jupiter stations direct in Gemini (which is also its sign of detriment). The philosophical force of this energy is once again moving full speed ahead. Our mind is jumping incessantly from one topic to the next, not bothering to slow down for even a millisecond. Perhaps this frustrates you. Maybe you’ve got a stack of unfinished books laying on the floor and for some reason you just can’t gather up enough of a creative impulse to finish them. They keep pilling up one after another. You read a chapter or two, but then you grow bored. Let yourself be bored. Let your boredom blossom into childlike curiosity. Let yourself start things and not finish them.
