Pascal LeinertFragt sich, für wie lange. Ich bezweifle ja, dass die Venezolaner wieder unter einem faschistischen Regime leben wollen. Denn ich befürchte, dass es ziemlich sicher der Fall sein wird, dass in #Venezula nicht die #Demokratie einkehren wird. Gerade bei #Trump ist zu befürchten, dass Demokratie nicht sein Ziel ist.

ManuelaDa igual cómo sea el gobierno o el régimen de un Estado: inmiscuirse en asuntos ajenos a través de la fuerza militar constituye un crimen de agresión, término específico según el derecho internacional. Y lo es porque, de lo contrario, se abre la veda a que cualquier nación pueda invadir países o derrocar gobiernos, incluidos los europeos, con excusas peregrinas.

I vividly remember the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Absolutely massive anti-war protests swamped downtown. People holding up banners "No Blood For Oil" while TV wouldn't say anything except about "weapons of mass destruction"
The police presence was intense. Someone brought a box of donuts, and police used a bomb squad to "neutralize" their "suspicious package." After that, I watched friends get hospitalized after being trampled by riot cops on horses.
News media? Even local? NOTHING. Total blackout.
A message was being sent, one I heard loud and clear:
WE - the Oligarchs - are in control, and this action, invading Iraq, has already been decided. There will be no public comment, debate, or input.

I'm honestly sick of the sentiment "US citizens voted for this", "they're responsible", etc
Because, to be very blunt: despite all the propaganda and projected ethos, my country is quite objectively not-democratic ( in the "small d" sense we say here, as this has nothing to do with one of the major political parties. )
We're ruled by oligarchs. Those who built the system were cishet white men, overwhelmingly but not entirely Christian, and exclusively - and most importantly - OWNED* A SHITLOAD OF LAND.
*: stole from Indigenous people
The system they built is clearly designed to generate stalemates, because that prevents oligarchs losing control.
Every single group that can vote that isn't "white cishet male with wealth" has a holiday, a figurehead hero, and history of raising trouble that spans generations. In short, they caused enough trouble for oligarchs that being allowed to participate at all was seen as less of a problem than their continued pressure.
.... and that's where all our voter supression issues come from.
We have just enough democracy to prevent a revolt.
This is not new. It really isn't. In fact,
