"Dear (public) diary. Today I finished wiring the bus..." 😊

12V system up and running, completely rewired (although based on original schematics).

I need to make a couple of small distribution boxes like in this video but with XT60 instead of Powerpole. I feel a little foolish that I didn't think of using spade connector hardware to hold the fuses but hey, at least I saw this before I re-invented the wheel.

Tesla might be pleased with my camper van electrical system as it's DC from collecting photons to loads*. ~Everything** runs on USB-A 5V or USB-C PD via hubs on 12V runs from the batteries.
It helped to get USB-C to barrel plug adapters that negotiate for their preferred voltage so I could ditch a mess of wall warts.
In my van, all of the 12V DC lines are terminated with XT60 connectors, standardized so the load side is male and the source side is female. The USB hubs all run on 12V and so their leads terminate in XT60 male connectors.
* the induction cooktop and coffee grinder are 120V AC
** the aircon and petrol bunk heater use 12V DC but they have their own runs directly from the batteries, no USB involved

Friends, if you make your own cabinets for up near the ceiling of a space you can't stand in (like, say, a regular sized van) then for the love of Dog make the doors hinged at the top with magnets or gas struts to hold the door up, open, and out of the way.
Not hinged on the side because you'll need to dodge it. Especially not hinged on the bottom, because then you made doors that are exactly where you want to be to access the cabinet.

Ok! Based on this shakedown mosey I believe that moving forward there will be less tearing out of areas of the van that don't work and more finishing work on a solid core. 🎉
The layout works. I'm satisfied with features chosen and excluded.
The interior still looks like someone built it from scraps (because I did) and a lot of stuff looks temporarily tacked into place (because it is) but despite appearances this is a milestone.

Even with no solar input and no skimping on using the induction hotplate and other devices, I'm around halfway through the stored electricity in van power system v2. So, I'm pleased with that.
I haven't installed the roof mounted aircon, yet, and when that goes in it'll take a bite.
I am running the vanLAN but (other than my laptop charger) those devices are all little sippers.

Just in time for a shakedown tour, camper van electrical system v2 has successfully powered the making of tea, without which I would be unable to continue the build. Close call, that.

The eternal urge to permanently secure devices to my van roof using copious amounts of marine adhesive.

Today I started making cables for van power system v2. Apparently, making thicc cables is my happy place. Pounding lugs, squishing ferrules, heating shrink tubing, ... that's my zone, man.
🤷‍♂️
I forgot to take photos but maybe tomorrow.
