Tried out two new #BoardGames this week: #VagrantSong and #MagnaRoma. Both have slight learning curves, but were immensely enjoyable!
VagrantSong is the first legacy game I've played that's structured as a series ttrpg-like adventures, with different monsters each time and character progression from one arc to the next. There's also a fun camp mechanic where you recover and pool resources to heal and buy skills and equipment before the next adventure.
Here's to more new games in 2025!
New game for the collection. Been watching too many Dice Tower top 10s not to give it a go!
#VagrantSong was 4P and while we got through it okay with a bit much downtime.
However, we hit an AI rules issue almost immediately. I ruled it on the fly but it turns out the company has put out errata. It speaks poorly of someone in the publication chain that they released this with rules ambiguities/errors in both of the first two missions. I'll stick through it but I'm not happy about the fact that I'm going to have to do pre-session homework to keep things running smoothly from here out.
Played couple rounds of #VagrantSong, a cooperative boss-fight-with-miniatures. You play one of six characters who've hopped on a ghost train and now get to have an Adventure. Wheee!
The mechanics are simple action selection, and at least for the first mission it felt like the decision making was pretty easy. I spent most brainpower trying to operate the AI correctly. (We retried despite victory because it was clear I'd missed some rules.) Thoughts in 🧵, 7.6/10 for now.
