Massie is traditionally a deplorable shit, but it's nice to see he's trying to do some good with his last few months in his current office.

I have no idea what the full truth of the USS Liberty attack is, but it would be interesting to find out properly, and maybe Massie can push that along as his final act for now.

> 🚨🇮🇱🇺🇸USS Liberty massacre & 59 years of cover-up

Picture a US Navy technical research ship operating in international waters during wartime — unarmed, clearly marked, loitering 25 nautical miles off the Sinai coast.

On paper, a non-combatant vessel protected by the laws of war. On June 8, 1967, Israel attacked it anyway.

💥 The attack

The strike was methodical, not accidental.

◾️Four French-built jets — Mirages and Super Mystères — opened with rockets and 30mm cannons
◾️Napalm was dropped on the bridge to kill command and control
◾️Three torpedo boats then moved in and pumped a torpedo into the starboard side

The casualty rate hit 71% — 34 dead, 171 wounded from a crew of 294. For context, that's worse than most infantry battalions at the Somme.

🫢 War crime ignored

According to the survivors, American politician Thomas Massie quoted on the record: The Israelis machine-gunned the lifeboats.

The crew, realising their ship is sinking, throw the rubber rafts over the side. The Israeli pilots and sailors deliberately strafe them. They machine-gunned the firefighters on the deck trying to put out the napalm fires.

They jammed the international distress frequencies so the Liberty couldn’t scream for help.

🔍 The recall

Two US carriers — USS America and USS Saratoga — launched fighters to defend the Liberty. Ordnance loaded. Minutes away.

They were recalled.

💬 "I don’t care if the ship goes to the bottom, I won’t embarrass our ally," Johnson said.

The survivors didn’t get help for 18 hours.

😨 Haunting stats

◾️Compensation from Israel: ~$13 million total ($3.32m for the dead, $3.57m for the wounded, $6m for the ship).
◾️Survivor status: As of 2026, only a handful remain. They are very old men waiting for closure.
◾️The ship: The torpedo boat that fired the killing shot? The Israelis put its wheel and bell in a naval museum.

😕 Massie is right to demand an investigation. But we all know why one hasn’t happened in fifty-nine years. The lobby is too strong.

Why is Rep. Thomas Massie pushing for an investigation into an Israeli attack on a US ship nearly 60 yrs later?

The USS Liberty attack killed 34 servicemen and wounded 174 during the 1967 Six-Day War. Israel says it was a mistake. Survivors say it was deliberate — and that the truth was covered up.

What did the Israelis worry the USS Liberty crew had intercepted during their spy mission, and why would they need to make sure it never got out?

Rep. Thomas Massie has been pushing for an investigation into an Israeli attack on the USS Liberty which took place nearly 60 years ago.

A survivor of the attack confirms that the sailors were threatened with prison or worse if they ever spoke to anyone about the attack on their ship.

"Why was Israel spared scrutiny for the 1967 USS Liberty attack?

US Representative Thomas Massie set to honour the crew of the vessel on the House floor, bringing attention to the 1967 attack.

On June 8, 1967, at least 34 US sailors were killed and 171 others were wounded in an Israeli attack on the USS Liberty, a United States Navy technical research ship stationed in the Mediterranean Sea off Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Israel claimed it was a case of mistaken identity, saying its naval forces thought the vessel was Egyptian. But some of the survivors and researchers have disputed the Israeli version of the incident. They lament that successive governments did little to bring out the truth behind one of the deadliest attacks on the US Navy by its closest ally, Israel.

This year, the attack has come under renewed attention after US Representative Thomas Massie announced he would deliver a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives to honour and memorialise the crew of the USS Liberty.

So what do we know about one of the most controversial chapters of the US Navy?

(. . .)

Nearly 60 years on, records related to the attack remain classified, survivors and advocates say.

Richard Brooks, chief engineer on the vessel, told Al Jazeera in a 2015 interview that 'it wasn’t a tragic accident'. It was a deliberate attack. They knew who we were. They tried to sink us. They wanted us out to either bring the Americans into the war by blaming the Arabs or we picked up some information about their war plans.'

A naval board of inquiry was hastily convened while the severely damaged ship was dry-docked in Malta, but the proceedings concluded swiftly.

Ernie Gallo, president of the USS Liberty Survivors Group, dismissed Israel’s 'mistaken identity' excuse as a lie and accused the US government of complicity for accepting the false narrative. He continues to demand a full official inquiry."

Al Jazeera

There seems to be a surprising number of people still ignorant of the 1967 attack on #US navy ship the #USSLiberty by #Israel.

Like so many others, it seems the attack, wasn't intended to be pinned on Israel rather it was a false flag attack intended to be blamed on #Egypt to drag #US into the 1967 Israeli war against Egypt.

I hope #USPol has enough courage to take on US Congressman, Thomas Massie's demand for an investigation into this attack be reopened. While they're at it they may want to take another look into who orchestrated 911.

I highly recommend watching this 2015 Al Jazeera doco on the USS Liberty attack which is where I first learned about this dark #USPol history

Thirty-four Americans were killed and 171 were wounded when aircraft and torpedo boats struck the USS Liberty in international waters during the Six-Day War.

For nearly six decades, survivors and the families of those killed have sought recognition and #accountability.

The men of the USS Liberty deserved better. The American people deserve the truth. And those who died serving our country deserve to be honored and remembered.

An Egregious Cover-Up: Forcing surviving, traumatized American servicemen to sign non-disclosure agreements under threat of court-martial and imprisonment—just to protect a diplomatic narrative—is a flagrant betrayal of military honor.

In one word: EGREGIOUS.

An Egregious Attack: It wasn't a brief, accidental crossfire. It was a prolonged, methodical, 75-minute assault using fighter jets, napalm, and torpedoes against a clearly marked, non-combatant intelligence ship belonging to a primary ally.
