What a nice article to remember Friedrich “Fritz” Leisch, one of the unsung heroes of #RStats: https://journal.r-project.org/articles/RJ-2024-001/. Didn't know anything about his work until #user2024. Much more impressed about all of his contributions to the language and the tools surrounding it.
Remembering Friedrich "Fritz" Leisch

This article remembers our friend and colleague Fritz Leisch (1968--2024) who sadly died earlier this year. Many of the readers of The R Journal will know Fritz as a member of the R Core Team and for many of his contributions to the R community. For us, the co-authors of this article, he was an important companion on our journey with the R project and other scientific endeavours over the years. In the following, we provide a brief synopsis of his career, present his key contributions to the R project and to the scientific community more generally, acknowledge his academic service, and highlight his teaching and mentoring achievements.

Finally the efforts of the #useR2024 dev day landed R-devel!! Some improvements on Rd2HTML mainly for #rstats accessibility.

@eliocamp created the patch while I was identifying the issues. There are still some issues that can be improved as explained & discussed on the (now closed) issue https://bugs.r-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18825
Diff: https://github.com/r-devel/r-svn/commit/447675cf8d24ebf96ef3f021116df05f686e4f3f

18825 – Improve tools::pkg2HTML accessibility

Happy new year! I'm trying to recall some details of the talk by Kurt Hornik on #useR2024. I found the slides, but would like to hear what was said about a specific topic. Although many of the conference content is on the Youtube account https://www.youtube.com/@useRConference_global, I haven't found that talk (event if it was a keynote). Does anyone know if it was recorded and if it will be shared? I wanted to confirm about some CRAN policies/practices before asking directly/publicly on a #rstats mailing list.

My Keynote talk "Keep R Weird" from #user2024 is now on YouTube!

Thank you so much, @useR_conf for having me - it was truly a special conference and a joy to learn new things about #rstats alongside my fellow weiRdos.

Hype level: High
Exhaustion level: Also high

Let's do this thing.

I wrote a blog post about my experience at #useR2024   : https://llrs.dev/post/2024/07/28/the-missing-r-generation/
I focus on the ambient and my purpose of going there and not the content.

Comment here and explain your experience!

Sunday I was a bit down before going to Salzburg, as I was considering if spending my monthly salary in a week for useR!2 024 was worth it. While I was looking to some talks and content I was mainly interested in meeting people.

This survey is open to anyone that attended either the virtual event (2 July), or the in-person event (8-11 July), or wishes to provide feedback on why they did not attend useR! 2024.

Happy to have seen this particular artwork in Munich's amazing Lenbachhaus, on the way home from #useR2024 -- so very apt!
