Fruit tree people of Mastodon: Call for research participation!

I'm currently compiling a scholarly research project on how different cities handle urban fruit trees: growing, gleaning, maintenance, and regulation. This is in service of doing more food sovereignty and climate work better, and learning from each other in a streamlined way.

I know there's a solid community of growers here at minimum, and I'd love to talk with anyone who's:

1) Growing fruit trees and has insights on what's surprising or difficult about them;
2) Involved in food forests or public urban orchards;
3) Involved in urban gleaning projects;
4) Has something interesting to say on this topic that you think I have not covered here.

If you're interested, I would love to hear from you, and thank you all in advance for considering.

Here is a picture of the 110 lbs of cherries I picked last summer off one (1) downtown backyard tree for posting this on a Sunday.

The webinar series I've been skimming through today, in search of references perdu, just justified itself completely with five (5) minutes on the Melbourne Urban Forest Plan.

I'm out here confirming my own prejudices about people and problem-solving, but: If you dig around enough on any given problem, yes, someone has thought big pieces of it through. 🙂

Update: Have folded/spindled/mutilated The Crisis™️ enough that I'm actually getting an afternoon with my research triage today -- trawling through some particular archives for papers to read and models to follow up.

Oh, wow, it's so nice to remember that when I'm not doing it with half an eye on who's setting what on fire?

Oh wow I love this shit. I love every single thing about it. 🌳 🍎 💪

A good morning's work. 🍒

Massive geopolitical stress = addled sleep cycle = awake early enough for proper dawn watering, and -- man, it's beautiful out here this morning. Quiet and lightly humid and cool. 💙

Did my first big weeding and harvesting tour through the #balconygarden this afternoon, and I just found the upside to the cold, damp May weather. Behold Mount Spinach.

Still a little behind from the cool weather, and everything needs a sweep, but it's starting to look like something intentional. #balconygarden #urbanag
