80 to 85% of the environmental cost of this hardware is from manufacturing and distribution.
We shall be able to repair and upgrade those over time. But with soldered memory and storage this is not achievable any more.
I’d happily support thicker and more expensive models if I had the assurance I can maintain them in working condition (hardware and software) longer. 3/3

Regarding efficiency per watt though, I think we'll see purpose-specific & semi-analog accelerator hardware make a come-back more generally.

Wonder if someone here can answer a question about memory upgrades?

I ordered an refurbished HP EliteBook 840 G5 that can be upgraded with up to 2x16GB 2666MHz SODIMM. Have searched for list of compatible memory but wonder if it would work with faster memory with lower CAS and if so, would I gain any performance or should I just go for some of those on the list of known to work?

There are memory of 2x32GB but guess that it is to much to hope for.
