The take-away of this video is that empires don’t sustain themselves on violent force alone, they also have to have a story, a mythology, that people tell each other to justify it’s existence. Since the fall of the USSR, the USA became the only imperial super-power. Though the USA committed genocide and wars of aggression, this was always justified by the mythology of freedom, democracy, and prosperity under an American-led rules-based world order.

The mythology is essentially that America liberated Europe from fascism in World War II and ended the genocide of the Jews, and since then the rest of the world gradually abandoned communism and adopted the American model of economics and government, and that had made the world more prosperous and harmonious. Has anyone heard American citizens, when talking about European opinions of the US say something like, “well if weren’t for us, Europe wouldn’t exist now, they should be more grateful toward us!” I have heard it said many times by numerous people, that was the power of the mythology.

But now, because of the actions of #Trump (and Biden too, who gleefully led the #genocide of #Gaza along side Netanyahu) no one believes in that mythology anymore. Not only does no one believe it, but that mythology seems absurd, even laughable.

The Trump administration is openly contemptuous of the UN and international law with his war of aggression and continued genocide of Gaza. Trump is contemptuous of the US’s own constitution, sending in his own private police force to occupy US cities and kidnap minorities and political activists. Trump is a convicted felon, and we now know that much of the US political class has been involved in child sex trafficking for years. The Democratic Party helps congress to act as a rubber-stamp approving of Trump’s war of aggression. Student protesters face the kind of government reprisals not seen since the 1950s red scare for criticizing the government of Israel — not for criticizing the government of the USA, but for criticizing the government of a foreign country, that is the kind of speech that is no longer protected free speech in the “land of the free.”

The idea of American freedom, democracy, and prosperity, is a sick joke. Most people around the world believe this now. So the American-led post World War II world order, as we know it, is probably never coming back now. The world we all grew up in is probably gone forever, and a new world order will take it’s place in due time, hopefully before nuclear holocaust or climate change ends humanity entirely.
