Speaking of #underconsumption, one brand I'll always promote is Timpsons who replaced my watch strap last weekend. They're one of the few nationwide high street chains whose business model involves repairs rather than trying to sell ever more new stuff - they fix shoes and replace watch straps and batteries as well as cutting keys, and recruit their staff from ex prisoners whose arrest record would otherwise make it difficult to find a job.
@afewbugs I started doing the #UnderConsumption already a long time, long before it was hyped. For some time out of necessity, later stuck to it and from the money saved, I could help some other people less fortunate.
Oh and by the way, I cycle more than I drive (we do have a car) and use Public transport. Cycling is more than a way to get from A to B (is sort of necessity for me, but not from a money perspective)
When TikTok's #underconsumption trend meets festive excess.
I find the whole hashtag underconsumption thing fascinating because it's how most normal people on a budget live anyway - don't buy stuff you don't need, make things last longer - but it's become a "trend" because it's the opposite of how advertising driven social media usually works
BBC: When TikTok’s underconsumption trend meets festive excess. “Secret Santa, stockings and presents under the tree – gift-giving is at the heart of Christmas Day. But should it be? This year more people have been exploring underconsumption – the trend where shopping hauls and miracle must-buys are replaced with reusing beloved possessions and purchasing less.”
