Palestine, Russia, Undead Chemnitz. What else must the Venice Biennale endure?
For the first time since the Venice Biennale was founded, it has artistic relevance. What was essentially a meaningless feel-good event for EU officials has unwittingly become a political stage. Undead Chemnitz is proud to play a part in the downfall of hypocrisy. Henricke Naumann (who sadly passed away this year – forgive me, Hecke, you’ll understand) was and is part of Undead Chemnitz and lived and worked with us. That’s why you can also see a work of art from Karl-Marx-Stadt in the German Pavilion. (For those familiar with the area: The original is in the IHK building on StraNa, regrettably behind a plasterboard wall, because of socialism and all that, you know…) Even though your sacrifice was great, you honour us and what we all stand for with it! Thank you! The work is also aptly named ‘The Inner Front’… You’ll just have to put up with us. Sorry! (And Free Palestine!)
