My first move was to ditch windows for Linux. This was easier than I initially thought.
Best advice for anyone thinking of doing the same is to make sure Linux supports your WiFi adapter! Had to buy a WiFi dongle cos my laptop did not have a supported WiFi.
I am massively impressed with Linux (Ubuntu). Easy to use with loads of features and free!

Bonus learning: you'd think older machines would struggle, but I've seen no post-install h/w issues on my 13-year-old MacBook Pro: wifi, bluetooth, ethernet, screen, touchpad, keyboard, speakers...
I suspect age is a benefit to a point, the Linux community having had more time to solve things, subverting Apple's planned obsolescence and urge to sell more regardless of environmental impact.

Update: #Fedora #workstation is now on my old Surface 4. Touchscreen is not working which is not a big problem and I know of solutions - what is a bigger problem is that the installation is very laggy. Videos on YouTube lag and the whole OS is slow. Am looking for solutions now. Is Linux for non techies? Well, from my experience, it isn’t. However, an #Unbuntu Linux installation I did a while back on an old HP laptop runs perfectly…so you may be lucky!

hush404Help! Im replacing my 13y/o tower /w a #miniPC (#AMD #Ryzen based) as my my main & want Linux powering it. Have exp /w #Unbuntu, #Mint, #Manjaro, #Q4 and Pi-OS, so I've got some knowledge. But, I'm not sure what distro may best meet my needs (smth /w gaming in mind?). #KDE is my pref DE, mostly daily browsing, but also gaming. Steam/GOG & #Emulation - prob not bleeding edge. Eyeing base #Debian & #Arch; are gaming focused distos useful? #Garuda decent? Thanks in advance for any comments!
