I have been inspired, for want of a better word, to ditch US big tech.
My first move was to ditch windows for Linux. This was easier than I initially thought.
Best advice for anyone thinking of doing the same is to make sure Linux supports your WiFi adapter! Had to buy a WiFi dongle cos my laptop did not have a supported WiFi.
I am massively impressed with Linux (Ubuntu). Easy to use with loads of features and free!

Bonus learning: you'd think older machines would struggle, but I've seen no post-install h/w issues on my 13-year-old MacBook Pro: wifi, bluetooth, ethernet, screen, touchpad, keyboard, speakers...
I suspect age is a benefit to a point, the Linux community having had more time to solve things, subverting Apple's planned obsolescence and urge to sell more regardless of environmental impact.
