Solutions

Developer verification will be enforced on certified devices with Google Play Services installed, which is the majority of Android devices. There are options to bypass the restriction:

Use a free, uncensored Android system like /e/os, LineageOS, or GrapheneOS that does not preinstall Google Play Services.

"#Degoogle" by removing Google Play Services. Depending on the manufacturer of your phone this may require rooting your device.

Just 297 more days until I am set to DeGoogle from Android (2027, January 1st deadline) yet I am so far behind on my APK backup goal. I currently have my eyes on this phone to replace my aging and heavily damaged Samsung Galaxy S20:

Edit: Omgh of course i just found it.

It was the VPN kill switch set to "always on" and "block connections without vpn"

I am trying to backup not just the app, but all associated data (save progress, configurations, source code, binaries, everything) Data on these apps goes all the way back to 2009 or earlier.
I want this Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (almost 6 years old now) to be my final Android device.
Am I doing this right? Is my data bundled inside the APK/APK+ files? Are they installable (in a virtual machine, sometime in the future)
Android has been one of the 3 major hurdles I still can't cross to degoogle my life (the other 2 being YouTube, and Golang (which seems to be used on so many programs I use) GMAIL is a 4th hurdle, but it is a lot smaller. A lot of the apps are Internet based, and won't run, but I still value their preservation.

Hab mich dann doch für e/OS entschieden, genauer: Shiftphone mit Murena und e/OS.
Der Murena Account und das Einbinden des Cloudspeichers unter Linux Mint hat mich schon mal begeistert! Nun warte ich gespannt auf das Telefon.
