Very good article on the threats facing humanities teaching in UK universities. Think the regional point is critical - student numbers aside, you can't have a situation where the humanities are only taught in Oxbridge and London, you need good provision across the country. #ukhighered

Today is my last day in #academia

So much has changed in #UKHigherEd in the last fourteen years. The defunding of the education system and the increased burden on individual students for shouldering the costs has led to a real change in focus. Some of that change was needed, but much led to the increased commodification of #education and students being treated as customers.

Some thoughts on the future of #HigherEd follow (1/n)

The state and decline of UK universities (to a large extent) because of neoliberalism is tragic to witness. A very interesting read. I suppose we'll see how the current industrial action ends and whether it furthers the exodus of academics from UK universities
