So, in the end, we stopped for a very late breakfast (early lunch?) at Cadence in Partridge Green and then had a few pints in Brighton at The Hole in the Wall (old traditional pub with a very good beer selection).

The ride along the Downs Link and along the coast was excellent. Weather cooperated as well.

Some photos in response to this toot.

Anybody here have any recommendations for a decent pub (serving lunch) along the Downs Link from Horsham to Shoreham-by-Sea or even in Shoreham itself? I'm looking for a good pit stop along the way to Brighton (I know plenty of places in Brighton I'm hoping to stop before getting there).

I'm aware of two very good cafΓ©s along the route.

So, yesterday I had the pleasure (?) of using the Southern Rail service on the Three Bridges to London Victoria line. I had my full sized bike with me. On previous occasions, the bike carriage was indicated by a bicycle logo near the door, next to a wheelchair logo. On yesterday's train, the bicycle logo had been removed.

Anyway, I got on the train and went to tie up my bike only to find that there were no straps. Everything else was the same as it used to be. So I had to stand next to my bike so it wouldn't get flung around on some of the curves (or track changes).

I asked the conductor and was told that they removed the straps due to a "government directive". He didn't look like he was in the mood to be questioned by me, just a passenger (oops, sorry: a customer) so I didn't probe further. If anybody knows what government directive this might be, please let me know (before I write to my MP).

I am concerned that this is the first step towards not allowing full sized bikes at all on their services.

PS - Thameslink, on the other hand, provide an excellent service including carrying bikes and, luckily, this is the service I use more often.

Anybody here have any experience on taking a bicycle (full size) on the Guildford-Gatwick route (via Redhill) with Great Western Railway?

A nice, if very windy, ride at lunchtime today - one of those rare rides where everyone was patient and behaved themselves, coupled with a delightful spring day. That should've made it entirely stress free - but my goodness those potholes are getting extremely tiresome. #UKCycling #Cycling

We are big fans of automatic gearhub and motor combos, so to see Estarli add a Bafang auto drive to the e28.x is great news:

One we'll soon grab for review, the new VOLT Bikes Urban commuter bike. Β£2,399 for a UK-assembled e-bike with lots of nice details:

Degreased the cassettes and chain but I will need to replace them. I'll probably go cheap as possible on aliexpress. Grok suggests YBN chain and ZTTO 10 speed cassette, which I can get for half the price of the KMC chain and SRAM cassette I currently have. #ukbiketooter #ukcycling #cycling
Bike cleaned, but I need to go deep on the drive train, it is a little nasty. #ukbiketooter #cycling #ukcycling
