All these Green and Reform councillors quitting immediately after winning their seats has been very funny. Reform had one step down after only three hours in what was my favourite example of how unsuited these people are for power.

I'm in a deeply cynical cycle with these populists in ascendency, but I'm glad I can find some laughs in amongst it all โ€” even if it does debase and demean our democracy.

He really is though, I think that's why Starmer is all for a leadership battle now, because he thinks Burnham won't win that Byelection.

Will a dark horse candidate from the left of that party please stand up?

@eco-g now that Andy Burnham is fencing sitting on Brexit, (and why not anything else that's 'tricky') voters need the Greens to stand to counter Labour's endless befuddlement.

Examining the Rise of Christianity and Nationalist Influences in the UK

In recent decades, Britain appeared to be moving away from Christianity, with declining church attendance and a more secular society. However, a recent report has suggested that church attendance may actually be increasing, sparking debate about a possible revival. This resurgence coincides with far-right figures, including Tommy Robinson, promoting Christianity as a marker of national identity, intertwining religion with political and cultural narratives. The Guardian visited churches across the UK to explore how this revival is being interpreted by different communities, uncovering a growing division over whether Christianity is being used as a spiritual practice or a political tool. The investigation highlights tensions between traditional church teachings and the way some groups are framing religion to support nationalist ideologies. While some congregations report a renewed interest in faith and community, others are concerned about the politicisation of Christianity and the potential impact on social cohesion. The article raises questions about the broader implications of this movement, including how faith intersects with identity, politics, and social values in modern Britain, and whether this perceived revival reflects genuine religious growth or a symbolic adoption by certain political groups.
