more photo's from last Wednesday (I'm working backwards it seems) from the warm afternoon in Memorial Park.

Signs of spring springing until it's sprung in the air. Or something.

Daffs (in the week of St David's Day, tree blossom and a bee on the move)

This time last week it was sunny and I spent an hour in the Memorial Park Willenhall. This was the park of my childhood.

This is the mossy selection from that warm afternoon.

Scarlet Elfcup's, puddles and moss. Just February 25m from the M6 (the UK's longest motorway). You don't need to travel to see nature, it's what you drive past, unseen, on your way to a 'nature destination'. Go and see your local nature first :)

First visit since November to a local spot. It's like a little rainforest but is completely enclosed by modernity and nothing is natural. The pool was made to top up a canal and the reason it's so sheltered and moist is the fact it's in the shade of a motorway. Nature isn't something we need to travel to visit, we are nature and it's all around us if you look.

Finally wrote up the muddy trip to Pendeford Mill Reserve on Monday. It's actually the first proper post on the site to have all it's images and meta-data (AuHD issues here I feel) Anyway, a write up of a muddy walk that claimed at least one soul (well sole) and led to my first almost in focus shot of a treecreeper.

Muddy Pendeford Mill

Frugal naturalism from the Midlands.

Swifts are disappearing from our skies fast: numbers have fallen by up to 60% in a single generation.

And yet there’s a simple solution to this speedy decline. The Government just needs to make it a legal requirement for all new houses to include swift bricks: a Β£35 hollow brick that gives these birds a safe place to nest.

Scotland has already done this but the rest of the UK still lags behind.

We must push the UK Government to do the same here in England

Save our swifts: include swift bricks in every new house

I just signed the campaign calling to save our swifts, by calling for the UK Government to follow Scotland's lead and make it the law for all new houses to be built with "swift bricks" - safe places for these birds to nest. Will you join me?

A sprinkling of snow here in the middle of the UK, just enough to look pretty but not enough to stop you slipping on the ice underneath.
Fluffy robins, looking like feathered Christmas baubles.
Only a few footprints, even the dog walkers have stayed inside today.

Posh Brits looking for something new to kill is it?
The Badger cull was shown to be a cruel waste of time, but then that's what excites the Posh, isn't it?
