Good to know: Ubuntu studio comes with RaySession, a software that allows to save a soft·hard·ware / midi / anything… patch and load it when you want to find back a precise configuration for your live. It also solves lots of trouble if you work with a web browser as a source, as it autoconnects audio contexts to your preferred destination. Thanks to @QuentinJuhel for finding that. Obviously you can download RaySession even if you don’t use Ubuntu Studio.

Preparing for a little #EventTech job to come… so I simply need two colorful lights, and I have to bring my laptop anyways. Sounds like #DMX / #ArtNet via wifi to me, and since this is #UbuntuStudio #Linux, there's not many options, #qlcPlus is one of them.

Well, QLC+ (version 4.x here), it's free, even open source, but still… I never got really used to it. It is quite different from most lighting consoles.

There's no way to select multiple fixtures in the virtual console, and the faders for RGB fixtures only work until 50%, above they fade into plain white.

But still, it will do the job and I won't have to bring my #lscMantraLite. Which would do the job very well, but there's virtually no FOH space available and it's just those two lights… (other lights in the venue are also there… but not DMX-controllable, haha.)

I'm a little disappointed. I set up an ai amp sim + stereo cab sim w/ a few basics. I'm practically maxed out on the #MODdevices Dwarf. Might need a 2nd for effects.

I'm not necessarily opposed but, that makes a huge difference in travel gear & setup time. Signal chain would be limited somewhat as well. Best I could do is use one TRS i/o for distorted and the second for clean from amp box to FX box then into the interface.

Or reamp. Which doesn't help me at all if I wanted to use only this for shows.

It is possible to DIY a machine to use w/ MOD Desktop but 1) latency 2) footswitches 3) i/o 4) knobs

🧵 Die Installation von #Applixware #Office hatte ich 23 Jahre lang von einem Rechner zum nächsten kopiert, und auch auf meinem #UbuntuStudio 24.04 noch verfügbar gehalten. Natürlich lief von #Applix nix mehr, weil die Bibliotheken alle schon lange weg waren…

… aber auf #SuSE #Linux 7.3, rüberkopiert ungeniert per
tar c <ordnername> | netcat <ip> 8080
und drüben
netcat -l 8080 > lala.tar
(Netzwerk von #VirtualBox im Bridge Mode)…

… läuft sofort, rasend schnell, out of the Box.

Nun fühle ich mich wieder wie als Oberstufenpennäler oder junger Student, ich und mein Applixware, der einzige, der das genutzt hat, ich kannte wirklich persönlich keinen.

Und weil's so schön nostalgisch ist… noch ein Foto von meinem ersten eigenen Laptop. Das war aber noch #KDE1 auf dem Bildschirm. Das Gerät war überall mit dabei. Foto aus dem Jahr 2000. So ein Mini-Laptop hatte auch weit und breit niemand. Ich glaube, es hatte 64MB RAM und 2GB Festplatte.

… luckily, the #GoStreamDeck software by #Osee runs in #Wine on #UbuntuStudio #Linux. I used a #ZowieBox to get the multiview over the network into #OBS on my laptop using #NDI.

… also there was no space directly opposite to the wall, and then these LED onion rings from above in the way… so I had to torture the “quick corners” setup of that projector quite drastically.
