So today I installed a used Nvidia #GeForce RTX 3060 into my workstation PC running #UbuntuStudio #Linux 24.04.
This feels sick. I mean, a #GPU board with 12GB of RAM, 3 fans, and taking three slots of space, connectors for 5 screens… I even had to remove a part of the lid from my beloved old Dell Xeon workstation to fit it in.
And even worse, my plain old AMD Radeon RX480 was fast enough for pretty much everything.
Yet, #Lightworks #NLE has a nasty bug, or perhaps it's not even Lightworks, perhaps its the old #amdgpu #driver, with this message indicating something, and then only re-starting Lightworks helps:
GLXOpenGLContext::makeCurrent() : Current context not NULL
This occurred like 30 to 60 times an hour, so editing video was close to impossible for me.
Needless to say, now with #Nvidia #CUDA and #OpenCL available, #DaVinciResolve is the obvious thread to my Lightworks installation.
Thank you for nothing, #AI, for making these boards so expensive even on the used market.
