Twin-stick shooters - videogames where you control your direction with one stick and your firing direction with another - have been around for a long time but really took off with Williams' 1984 stone-cold classic, Robotron 2084.

Since then, big hits have included Smash TV, Geometry Wars, Super Stardust, Nex Machina and now Sektori.

I've always had a soft spot for games like this - where swarms of enemies try to overwhelm you as you manoeuvre smoothly between them, dispensing digital justice.

The best of these games can trigger a trance-like state, a flow. The player is simultaneously marvelling at their own skill *and* the ludicrous odds before them.
