A konečně hřeb dnešního podvečera: #turris Modrák

I have an issue with port forwarding on my turris omnia router.

I added a port forwarding rule for Port 80 & 443 from wan to lan.

When NAT relfection is enabled, I get the webserver port forwarding is configured to when trying to access the web interface of the router. With NAT reflection disabled the oppsite happens: When acessing the external IP-Address I get the routers web interface. Both cases are from inside the lan, wan side works as expected.

Anyone an idea?

The good old freezer trick ... (aka receipt for dead devices)

My Turris Omnia NG router was dead. No lights nowhere. I took out the installed NVMe SSD. I took out the RTC battery. Nothing helped. The display stayed black, the etherenet ports didn't blink at all.

So I unplugged everything and put the power supply and the router into the freezer for half an hour. Then I took everything out, waited another half hour and plugged everything back together and ... the router lived again!

(Sometimes «fixing» things can be really strange.)

I recently acquired a new Turris Omnia NG router from @turris to take advantage of my new 10 Gbit/s internet speed from my provider Init7. Now I was really curious about my actual speed ...

This led me to LibreSpeed (https://github.com/librespeed), an Open Source speed test tool which is working by default with PHP. Unfortunately the router isn't powerful to provide reasonable measurements because the chunk files to test the download speed are generated by PHP and openssl. This appeared to be a bottleneck.

So I was tinkering a little bit and created a NGINX backend for LibreSpeed which doesn't rely on PHP.

Now I have put together this in a GitHub comment: https://github.com/librespeed/speedtest/issues/375#issuecomment-3769211254

(I still rely on PHP to get the IP address and to store the measurements though, but this is lightweight enough for the router.)

Try it out yourself: https://speedtest.momou.ch

Turris OS 9.0.2 is out!

My router (Turris Omnia from campaign, 2GB) got bricked after upgrade to 9.0.2 (hbs). Checking via serial console (console works ok, all processes are running, just the network is dead) there’s no error neither in dmesg or logread however trying to restart network is flooding console with this [ 234.302018] br-lan: port 2(phy1-ap0) entered blocking state [ 234.307685] br-lan: port 2(phy1-ap0) entered disabled state [ 234.313307] ath9k 0000:03:00.0 phy1-ap0: entered allmulticast mode [ 234....

Apparently the #Turris Omnia NG chipset is really not a fan of old Cisco 1GbE copper SFPs, all TP ports refused to come up when booting with such an SFP inserted.

This, plus an automated update while I was off elsewhere turned out to not be a good combination. Not that I particularly blame the device, those old SFPs aren't the best.

@zoufalec jo, to jsem si v roce 2013 myslel taky, že budoucnost je bez drátů a při rekonstrukci v celém domě natáhl jen 2 datové kabely.
Do teď toho lituji.
I've been using the #Turris Omnia NG #OpenWRT #WiFi7 router for a month now. Read on my first thoughts here: https://lrose.de/posts/stateoftheturrisomniang/ :)
On the state of the Turris Omnia NG

Motivation I want to switch my network setup to open source software (and hardware) as much as possible. Therefore, I was looking for a modern OpenWRT WiFi device for quite a while now. I wanted stable OpenWRT support, enough computing power, memory and storage to run OpenWRT with some packages smoothly, preferably in open hardware. Most importantly, I wanted to directly go for WiFi 7 from my current WiFi 5 network. Even if I do not own any WiFi 7 devices yet, I want to use my new networking equipment for years to come, and therefore be future-proof. I also needed an SFP+ slot for cross-site connectivity, and preferably 2.5GiB+ copper ethernet as well to support the fast WiFi network.
