You don’t always need to take a photograph!

I first went to Venice in 1972 by train. It was late when we went down the Grand Canal and out to the Youth Hostel. I soon fell asleep on a top bunk with a shutttered window within arm’s reach….

…..When I woke it was dawn. I opened the shutter to a grey mist. Over the next twenty minutes the view of Venice appeared. I didn’t take a photograph but I committed the scene to memory. Back in London I found this:

Le parole del nuovo capo dell’ambasciata britannica a Washington, da poco subentrato a Peter Mandelson, rimosso dopo il coinvolgimento nello scandalo Epstein, rischiano così di invalidare lo sforzo diplomatico del Regno che, per ristabilire la pace sull’asse anglo-americano, ha chiesto addirittura l’intervento della Corona. “Nei secoli trascorsi dalla nostra indipendenza, gli americani non hanno avuto amici più stretti dei britannici. È un grandissimo onore avere qui i reali”, aveva dichiarato Trump accogliendo re Carlo, arrivato negli Stati Uniti con l’intento di stuzzicare l’ego del presidente americano. Chi non la pensa come il capo della Casa Bianca è però Turner: gli Usa di oggi, ha detto stando all’audio diffuso da Sky, hanno “probabilmente una relazione speciale solo con Israele”, per poi lanciare una frecciata all’alleato americano anche sul caso Epstein.
Da quanto si apprende, la conversazione è stata registrata nel corso di un incontro con un’associazione scolastica di ex alunni avuto circa due mesi fa. In quell’occasione, il nuovo titolare dell’ambasciata in Usa si è lasciato andare anche a considerazioni sullo scandalo pedofilia che sta terremotando i vertici politici ed economici americani, dicendosi stupito del fatto che questo non avesse “toccato nessuno negli Stati Uniti” fra i tanti vip frequentati dal defunto faccendiere.
