Jonny EllThe lower half of the walk was very steep and exposed to the wind, though with fantastic views. Then the upper section is through sheltered forest with the occasional view, but made for very pleasant walking. By the return trip, the wind had dropped and there were bits of blue sky about. A good workout and a thoroughly enjoyable walk. Walking poles essential on this one!
Edit: the name of the mountain is Rob Roy. The lower, exposed summit is Big Monks.
I've ventured to Canberra's deep south to walk up a steep mountain named after a Scottish cattle rustler. There's a lot of smoke around and a stiff, cold wind so I'll see how far I get.
DevorppaSo the overnight low had doubled (compared to the last two mornings) this morning to about 14 degrees, which is about average for this time of year. The ride up to the north end of Lake #Tuggeranong was very nice and I had thought about doing two laps of the lake.
But then I turned south and realised the reason the ride up there was so nice was that a breeze had picked up that was pushing me northward. As soon as I turned south I was pushing into that breeze, which was … unpleasant and tiring. So I headed home after the one lap.
Wonderful morning in south #Canberra today. Went for a ride up to Lake #Tuggeranong, did two laps and rode home again. Cool morning, very light wind and just plain pleasant. More people out and about that usual - I assume they are enjoying the holidays.
I was driving around Tuggeranong today. Anyway, I drove past the Tuggeranong Bowling alley this afternoon and into their car park. There was less than a handful of ACT plated cars … and the place was packed with blue DC plated cars - they were everywhere and a bunch were illegally parked.
There must have been some sort of diplomatic bowling competition on today.
