Question for anyone who is fluent in the #Cherokee (aka #TsaLaGi) language:

I'm looking for the words for Jew, Jewish, and Judaism. I've struck out with all of the standard dictionaries and lexicons, so instead I turned to the Cherokee New Testament (translated more than 100 years ago, so it has many words that aren't listed in dictionaries, and looked at some of the verses that use the word "Jew," in the hopes of figuring out which word is the right word.

I think I may have found it, but would appreciate if any Cherokee fluent folks could confirm this for me.

So anyway I think the word in Cherokee syllabary is: "ᎠᏧᏏ" but in phoenetics, it would be: "A-tsu-si"

Back in the 1830s, President Jackson (a curse upon his vile memory) ordered the removal of the #Tsalagi/ #Cherokee in north Georgia and neighboring states so the settlers could get the gold underneath them. Chief Justice Marshall issued an injunction. The President replied “Mr Marshall has made his ruling, now let him enforce it.” Most of the Tsalagi were death-marched to Oklahoma.

Same thing is happening now, but to everyone this time, not just to the Native population. There’s no legal recourse; this is how USA institutions are set up. A president with an allied congress basically has free rein.

Some of the Tsalagi went up into the Great Smoky Mountains. They’re still there.
