If you havent gotten to a point in your relationship where your partner is angry at you for not fitting their expectations for your gender and went through it together you are still living by that gender role and not really your life.

Everyone holds one or the other believe as to how that gender is supposed to be and the relationship is not for the individual unless we face these.

The fear to be different is really the fear to be a sovereign individual. To refuse to be determined by the other gender's demands. That's how people refuse to be truly individual and remain dependant. What makes someone different is to be bravely oneself.
Since people are too coward to do that they depend on outside orientation. For men it is typically what the economy demands. For women it's typically what men demand.
