Navigating the Past
Life in a real world instead of on a screen
Daily writing prompt Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently✅? I had walked into the PepsiCo warehouse holding a bottle of Coca-Cola, oops. The plant manager saw me and fired me on the spot. I knew better but being hung-over, I wasn’t thinking clearly.
A real good friend had been fired about two months earlier for insubordination and had went to work for his mom and dad in Missouri. He kept in contact with me and after hearing I had been fired he jokingly told he parents about it.
His dad, a total stranger offered me a job, teaching me how to drive semi which I was very grateful for. I discussed it with my [at the time] wife and we decided I should head down there from Indiana to take the job offer while she remained in Ft. Wayne.
We had been married under a year and I wish I would have gotten a divorce before I left as it would have saved me years of grief. A do over or mulligan could have made life so much different for me.
In those days we didn’t have cell phones so when I got lost going into Manhattan I had to pull over and read my Rand McNally road atlas to get directions that’s right, no GPS. In those days you made a call on pay phones as we didn’t have the luxury of mobile deceives or the headaches of living on a small screen.

Note: no Volvo semi-truck toot can be complete without a link to the Epic Split. #Enya #JCVD

Watch Jean-Claude Van Damme carry out his famous split between two reversing trucks. Never done before, JCVD says it's the most epic of splits -- what do you...
Remember that time Elon said he was making a semi-truck? 😂😂
Anyway, here's a real company making a real-life truck.
Up to 600km range.
20-80% fill in 50-85min
six-speed transmission
13-tonne axle
GCW of up to 48T with payload of 28T.
These are the things we need to be doing for those “last mile" applications where electrified (catenary) rail is not possible.
The preview doesn't seem to be happening on the Inside EV website so I added a screenshot.
Here's the actual Volvo product page with a ton more details, pictures, video etc.

'Everything comes off a truck'.
And that was a choice to get votes?
The common story is that rail was seen as competing with private enterprise trucking, and sole trader truck owners were seen as voters for neoliberal governments. So rail was neglected and trucks on the road encouraged.
Not sure how accurate this story is.
