Sam Powers@tobyjaffey Hotline was my first and fondest online community. Ran a hotline server from a closet in my school in 1999 until it was discovered and removed. Everyone on this server was engaged in writing their own hotline client!
The way ppl are engaging with stuff like mastodon, diaspora, pleroma, etc, reminds me of those days. People being unafraid to fail. There was also a bit of a cult following of Hotline's original author, chalk it up to memorable individuals.
