Mixed news on my current #MechanicalKeyboard project - certainly a learning experience 😅

Good news: I have the wired #SplitKeyboard working (currently on #QMK firmware with Vial). Early days but seems comfy.

Mixed news: #ZMK firmware was working last night, but I broke the build somehow while tidying up my changes.

Bad news: it has been 0 days since the last #TRRS cable short circuit issue (a known issue but these remain a default low-tech way of linking two halves of a split keyboard). You get a scary warning on macOS about excessive current drain, and that the USB has been disabled untill removed and reconnected (or rebooted?)

Seriously, WHY does no car manufacturer offer some simple phone dock instead of their shitty #touchscreens?

• I'd rather want a #CBradio or at least #NATO-Compliant #TRRS #Headset connector for a #PTT handset than a fucking #touchscreen!

And yes, I too want my #car to be simple, stupid, intuitive and just function.

• The most modern function I want is a #DCF77 self-setting clock (cuz #FuckDaylightSavingsTime!) and road-legal "parking disc" like the #ParkLikeMini built-in and maybe instead of #CD add a #CTIA-compliant #TRRS #AUX jack and fully removeable cable [maybe offer a USB-C Power Delivery charging port and splitter dongle] with one of those nice, automatic adjusting and gripping phone holders to it.

Cuz lets be honest noone but old #Boomers want to pay 4+ digits for a #NavigationSystem when even my first #Android #Smartphone over 15 years ago already delivered a better experience.

• Just gimme a mic, amp and speakers that don't sound like ass and let me bring my own #music, cuz the only #Smartphones that I'm aware of that don't offer FM #Radio are #iPhone|s...

@empathicqubit the reason I didn't buy the #Fairphone4 (and #WontBuy the #Fairphone5) is because it's a massive #downgrade from the #Fairphone3+:

• no real #DualSIM (#eSIM is not a valid replacement unless it's a removeable #SIM card!)

• Removal of 3,5mm #TRRS jack (#Sony made #waterproof jacks over a decade ago for their #Xperia Z line!)

• Way more expensive (I'm not gonna pay > €500 for a smartphone!) than is reasonable for any smartphone whatsoever.

• No features worth the cost of upgrading; only #downgrade|s!

@frameworkcomputer decided to choose the #Apple-esque "flat cells below #trackpad" design in the unreasonable #THINN-ness race instead of doing what even the #EeePC and #Sony's #Vaio #P11Z did and have a slot at the back to chug in batteries!

• I know why they did it, as a closed aluminium pan aka. "#lunchbox" design is easier to fabricate, but I'd rather some #ToolfreeSwappableBattery which are IMHO of more practicality than having the ability to swap out every port.

Not that I don't like those #modules, but I'd rather wish for a "#THICC-er" device if that gets me essentials like #Ethernet, #USB-A & -C as well as a #TRRS #HeadphoneJack / #HeadsetJack.

• I mean, I understand they won't make space for a underslung #Dock, a #Slimline - #ODD or god forbid #ExpressCard, and in terms of #tech I'd welcome #Thunderbolt over #OCuLink, but there's a reason I've not canceled the #NUCbook and if I didn't have to buy/procure #COTS products I'd likely just buy a #Pi500 with a #Powerbank and screen slapped on...

That being said the #Framework is still by a long margin the "least #enshittified" device on the market, and same goes for the #Fairphone devices...

• I just wished #FrameworkLaptop and Fairphone were just refusing the #Enshittification trend entirely, cuz I'd rather have a #Toughbook-Style device made out of #Thinkpadnium or even better #Nokianite than some fancy Aluminium stuff if that makes it more #repairable, #upradeable and espechally doesn't result in a #Downgrade.

Not to mention they don't have an #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint and I do use that instead of a Trackpad.

• The only reason I'm not daily driving my #P11Z anymore is because until I got @OS1337 into a useable state it's hardware, which was already #LowEnd at launch, can barely run @bunsenlabs and thus is not an option for #DailyDriving #Linux #Desktop workflows anyways...

@lmorchard I'm still not a fan of #Fairphone cancelling the #Headphone jack for no good reason.

I mean, #Sony made the #XperieZ3 that was literally advertised for #Selfies in the #pool and that had a #TRRS 3,5mm jack so no excuse to not have on on the #Fairphone4 & #Fairphone5.

Maybe put it on a replaceable module or include some attached rubber pin to seal it shut when not in use...
