The #GreenLitter and senescent litter (Cinnamomum camphora) generated by #TropicalCyclones exhibit distinctly different distribution patterns on the lawn and soil microhabitats.

🌊 How ocean eddies affect the intensity of #TropicalCyclones (TCs) 🌪️
A new #MPIM study using a 5km global #ICON simulation shows that TCs crossing more cold than warm eddies intensify more slowly & stay weaker on average, + there is preliminary evidence of the opposite effect when a TC passes over more warm than cold eddies. The global effect is a net weakening. The study suggests that accounting for mesoscale ocean turbulence could improve TC forecasts.

🌪️For the first time, scientists have resolved extremely intense #TropicalCyclones & their effect on the ocean #CarbonCycle in the global Earth system model #ICON. Simulating two category‑4 #hurricanes in the North Atlantic, Nielsen et al. show a cascade of physical‑biogeochemical effects including CO₂ uptake and a regional-scale phytoplankton bloom.
