On Monday, #KateCox #fled #Texas to seek an #abortion, after the #state #invoked its #authority to #force her to carry a #nonviable #pregnancy to #term. #Pregnant with what they’d hoped would be their third #child, Cox and her husband had learned that the #fetus had a #fatal #abnormality, #Trisomy18, ensuring that even if #delivered, the #child would #live a #short, #excruciating #life and #die a #painful #death.

Trisomy 18:

About 95% of pregnancies that are affected do not result in a live birth. Major causes of death include hypoxia and heart abnormalities. It is impossible to predict an exact prognosis during pregnancy or the neonatal period. Half of the live infants do not survive beyond the first week of life. The median lifespan is five to 15 days... Though rare, some persons with Trisomy 18 do survive into their twenties and thirties.

Pregnancy is stressful. Can anyone who has gone through a pregnancy or helped someone go through a pregnancy, even if relatively uncomplicated, imagine how much stress a fatal diagnosis and then government interference with your medical care would add to that?
