Conclusion: When randomness overachieves—a hexafoliate Trifolium repens identified under uncontrolled field conditions. 🍀✨

Fun fact: The odds of finding a six-leaf clover are estimated to be around 1 in 312,500 or even lower!

Hare's-foot #clover, #Trifolium #arvense (#Fabaceae), is native to Europe/Western Asia and inhabits dry, sandy, nitrate-poor #habitats. #Seeds are enclosed in feathery calyxes that protect against desiccation, serve as #flightorgans, but also adhere to animals. It hosts #symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria (paraphyletic "#Rhizobia"), which S. Schulz et al. (2013) analyzed in more detail via functional marker gene nifH.

Crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum, Blutklee) is an annual legume recognized for its striking, deep red flower spikes and soft trifoliate leaves. Often used as a cover crop, it thrives in temperate climates and grows quickly in spring. Ecologically, clover is highly beneficial: it fixes nitrogen in the soil through symbiosis with rhizobia, improving fertility for subsequent crops; it prevents erosion with its dense root system; and its vibrant blooms attract a lot of pollinators supporting biodiversity. Its fast growth and soil-enhancing properties make it valuable in sustainable agriculture and habitat restoration.
We have many types of clover in our meadows. Today I noticed for the first time that there was a single crimson clover in our meadow as well.

Mountain Clover (Trifolium montanum, Berg-Klee) is a perennial clover species of sunny, dry meadows, forest edges, and calcareous grasslands. It grows upright with narrow, three-parted leaves and pale flower heads ranging from creamy white to light pink, blooming in late spring and summer. Ecologically, Mountain Clover enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen, supporting neighboring plants and promoting biodiversity. Its flowers offer nectar and pollen for wild bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. As a typical species of species-rich, traditionally managed meadows, it serves as an indicator of healthy, stable habitats.

The #redclover #Trifolium #pratense (#Faboideae) is a common #plant in Central Europe, growing on nutrient-rich #meadows. It is native to Europe, Western Asia, and Northwest Africa, but was introduced to North/South America a long time ago. It is #pollinated bumblebees/bees with long proboscis. It is #parasitized by, i.a., #seedweevils of the genus Tychius. A weevil of may be this taxon, is visible in my #photos. #Biodiversity
