There was a dad with his daughter in the park yesterday, he was helping her climb trees and abseil down out of them. 100% approve, except that even though she had a harness on she was climbing up unroped, to heights that were "life-changing-injury" high, and he was throwing the rope up to her. Hmmmm.
Time for a word.
I brought out my sport rack and showed how they could use slings and carabiners to make anchors and lead climb up, as well as how to abseil with a third-hand made with a klemheist (or is it an autoblock? Knot nerds don't @ me).
Felt momentarily like a busybody getting all up in their business, but I've been taught that when you see something sketchy you say something, and I really didn't want to watch a kid risking serious injury. Turned out fine, the dad was very receptive to how he could help his obviously very adventurous daughter climb more safely—as you would be, of course.
