Lago Antorno, a small lake on the way to Tre Cime di Lavaredo. We stopped to capture these 200-million-year-old dolomitic limestone peaks before our hike. The autumn colors here are a stunning mix of orange and green—it's amazing how diverse the trees look side by side! The morning blue sky didn't last, as heavy rain and wind hit us later, but the views were definitely worth the effort. 🏔️🍂

All things must come to an end and so did our crossing of the Alps in 2023 with stage 11. On our way from Talschlusshütte to Dreizinnenhütte we didn't talk much as we soaked it all in and were both lost in thought about the past few days. Once we were getting closer to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo it got more and more crowded and we were a bit overwhelmed. After a pause at the hut - much longer than we anticipated, because it was so full - we left for the last part and the final destination. We crossed the imaginary finish line at Rifugio Auronzo and were received by our beloved ones.

It's been our greatest adventure yet and we absorbed so many unforgettable impressions.

Remember my post about day seven of our crossing of the Alps? Turns out, I probably became infected on Lienzer Hütte. My body temperature rose during the evening and I had to leave dinner early to change to an empty basement room at Sillianer Hütte. The night was hellish with little sleep. I felt a bit better the next morning, but still pretty weak. Fortunately, nearly all we had to do on stage 10 was descending to Italy during another warm day until we reached the Talschlusshütte in Fischlein valley at the edge of the Sexten Dolomites and I finally could recover a bit. Some wistfulness settled in this evening as the penultimate day of this amazing journey came to an end.

Another Fediverse instance sticker in the wild (2450m high)
Now it was time for one iconic view in the Dolomites: the Tre Cime di Lavaredo or Drei Zinnen. Highly desired tourist magnet.

That day we had lots of clouds disturbing the view - plus unmotivated kids thwarting our wanderlust.
The clouds made it very special though, magic and mystic.
Sometimes we felt we were walking on Mars.

The sticker's on a drone on a pole stating that drones aren't welcome there. They crash and are left in the scenery. Also: very annoying when functioning.

After days of dusty trails, sweaty climbs, and cozy nights in alpine dorms – we finally reached the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
Sleeping shoulder to shoulder was worth it for this view. 🏔️
Matratzenlager: 3/5 stars, but the sunrise? 10/10.

-- a regular day at the #MonacoDiBavieraClassic . The legs almost completely recovered after the shoe change which was motivation enough to collect another three checkpoints. I'm a little surprised how well I coped in the heat as the sun was burning relentlessly all afternoon.
