YouTube MusicSlip inside the eye of your mind and follow me back to 1996 and the peak of Britpop. Inspired by @cmolanphy's recent Slate Hit Parade episode covering the rise and fall of Britpop, I decided to dig back through that era... one which I was heavily invested in!
Ranging from the beasts of #britpop (#Oasis, #Blur) to personal faves (#Bluetones, #TrashcanSinatras) to some deeper cuts (#SilverSun, #KulaShaker) and more.

RFE: Britpop '96, Part 1 (June, 2023)
I was recently listening to Chris Molanphy's Hit Parade podcast episode about the Britpop era in the mighty 90s, and it took me back hard. I was all in for the Britpop sound of the mid-90s, and 1996 (in my opinion) is when it truly blossomed with the variety of artists who were being swept into the genre (whether they wanted to or not) and when Trainspotting became the cultural touchpoint and soundtrack for an era. (I was lucky enough to see it early in the UK.)
This was also a time when it became easier to get imports here in Seattle, via record stores as well as via an online shop I discovered in Scotland, so my collecting fervor went into overdrive.
Some artists have continued on with me thru the years (Trashcan Sinatras and The Bluetones, in particular), and it's always a delight to revisit Ocean Colour Scene, Silver Sun, Placebo, and Beth Orton.
