Patients with urgent, high-risk conditions to get heart transplant priority

The policy shift aims to reduce deaths of patients waiting for transplants, particularly those at high risk of dying from complications.

The Japan Times

The UK had a world beating organ transplant service (in the NHS) but now due to staffing problems & old(er) technologies it lags other European counties on the number of transplants successfully achieved & the subsequent survival rate.

Even though we 'harvest' organs at a rate in line with other counties we use a lower proportion for actual transplants.

Its just one more fatal consequence of the Tory engineered (but continuing) NHS crisis.

That's pretty cool- we were able to transplant a "universal donor" kidney into a braindead patient and it seemed to work (they don't really go into the details). The scientists in the article converted a type A kidney to a type O kidney prior to transplant by treating it with enzymes to remove offending sugar groups.
