This is good: funny, involving, illuminating, full-on. It could do with being a hundred pages shorter, but the sprawl has its reasons

Ducking into Glebebooks from a rather hot Sydney Streets and look what we found on the shelf? Thank you Tracy for insisting on taking a piccie 📷 despite my awkwardness!

I'm very excited to be included in this anthology of Autistic women and gender diverse writers, edited by Clem Bastow and Jo Case and published by UQP, who have kindly sent me advanced copies and a nifty tote bag. The awesome cover design is by Susan Le.

The book will be available from 4 March 2025. Check it out at https://www.uqp.com.au/books/someone-like-me

New Covers for the Second Joy Stable Series
The second book in the Second Joy Stable series, Head Shy, is now available, and I wanted to update the covers so they looked like the equestrian lit I wrote as "Mary Kit Caelsto". I'll be doing a separate announcement about that release, but for now I wanted to share the new covers for the series.

The more I think about using a pseudonym for original fiction and online trans spaces, the more I want to actually do it. It'd be nice to have my trans socials and future trans blog (currently in the works!) under the same name, which I'll then use to advertise my writing.

I have been writing fanfiction for over a decade now. Naturally my original fiction will be closely tied to the concepts and writing styles I've explored in fanfic. There will also be similarities between stories, characters, plots, etc. I like the idea of honoring how much fanfiction has played a part in my journey as an author.

I'm considering making a new AO3 account under whichever pseudonym I end up picking. I'll post rough original fiction on the main account, which I'll eventually clean up and self-publish somewhere online. From there, I'll branch off under different side accounts for different fandoms, all of which will visibly lead back to my main account. This feels like the most logical set up if I want to keep my writing all contained in one place.

However, I also write a lot of fetish/kinky smut. It's just a large part of my interests and lifestyle, and plays a huge role in how I come up with ideas, stories, and characters. It isn't present in all of my stories. But even in my smuttier stories, the plot and characters are usually rooted in genuine, heartfelt narratives. I'm not really a Porn-Without-Plot type of guy.

That being said, I keep especially self-indulgent/explicit stuff on an entirely different account. One day I might make it "public" under my pseudonym by hosting it on a personal website or behind a paywall like Patreon/Ko-fi, so that anyone who interacts with it will a) already be familiar with my work, and b) have to actively seek it out.

I guess the purpose of a pseudonym is to allow myself the freedom and privacy to do all of this and not worry about what anyone thinks. I would love to be able to show my longtime fanfiction readers the original fiction that will have evolved from my well-known fics. I also don't want to have to worry about censoring myself or split hairs on if I should include certain types of smut or not; additionally, I believe readers who come across my more explicit works might appreciate seeing my more nuanced stories, and vice versa.

But part of me is still apprehensive. I'd be curious to hear from other writers/authors. Let me know what you think.

So, I was expecting to feel some emotions when i picked up a collection of comics by Julie Kaye called “Super Late Bloomer: My Early Days in Transition”.

Was not expecting the ones I got when I read this in the intro:
“Yet another year passed, and I found myself back in the same place all over again. As much as I might have wanted them to, these thoughts & feelings weren’t going away & needed addressing. At twenty-six years old…”

Your book is called Super Late Bloomer, and you started at 26?!?!?! So what’s the term for me, starting at 45? Fossilized in Amber? 😅

(It was a good book. Definitely got the emotions I expected from revisiting those first months of transition with this)

Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki

Don't read this book if hungry. This author writes about food in the way that Tolkien writes about trees: with exquisite and infuriating detail.

A queen of hell, a demon, a family of aliens, a homeless violinist, a doughnut store, video game music... it's so hard to tie this story down into a single review.

Just go with it. It'll be worth it.
