Altra Mont Blanc Carbon
The supershoe in Zero Drop!
29mm of stack high
A « OKish » Vibram Megagrip
A dual foam construction to increase the comfort as well as the dynamic. And a carbon plate by carbitex.
The mesh is really good and breathable. Honestly this shoe is a great shoe. But too expensive vs the value.
I ran 850km in them and I did enjoyed. The vibram is not the best compare to the Prodigio Pro, but you can rely in them.
I could not find the benefits of the carbon plate but it did not bothered me neither. So I guess that’s OK.
The construction is pretty minimalist and this is what I did enjoyed! The only caveat to this shoe is the price point! 250€… common Altra!this shoe worth no more than 160€. Lots of deals are going on now, so again, pretty reliable shoe that lasts long and that is fun to run in.
If you have narrow feet, this shoe will be too large for you! I have large feet and it was almost too roomy in the midfoot. I had small issues to lace them properly in the beginning but after a couple of runs I figured it out. Some blisters tho in a hard volumes training block. I do recommend these one or the Mont Blanc Speed that have no carbon plates in them: lighter same dual foam, stable, medium stack and fast!

Now it’s time to review these 001 before to take my new 001A for a long run.
So far, Norda did a classic trail shoe with this 001. The vibram Megagrip is great and lasts quite a good amount of time. But… not if you run on the road with it. So far I did 500km and the forefoot lugs are almost gone.
Not bad… not good neither 🤷🏻‍♂️
The vibram midsole is just an EVA but one of the best I’ve ever run in. The thing is: you have to break it before you enjoy. The first 150k in those were pretty firm. Not that enjoyable. After those 150k, the midsole became softer and popier. Just perfect for long mountain runs. Super flexible and stable and, although the weight, you can also take the pace with them.
The upper is indestructible! No wear at all after 500k which is impressive. BUT: the upper is not breathable and not drainable. This if water (or snow) comes in… it never goes out. That is a trade off that is a bit uncomfortable for long run in snow. But anyways, I love these shoes even if wearing them in summer is not the best thing to do when temperatures are pretty high.

The lock down is impressive and even in my regular size no blister, no toes bang and no heel slippage.
Some folks had some heel irritation but I did not experienced that.
The 5mm drop is great for me!
I think these shoes are just great, I’ll continue to wear them for hike/thru-hiking, maybe to train but as the 5mm lugs are 2mm now, I cannot go into technical trails with them.

To sum up: great shoe for long run training in any types of terrain, overall great fit and comfortable cruising ride but very much pricy and the lugs are shaving a bit too fast imo.
You can find a pair for 190€ on line so that makes them OK.
But you may find a better deal for other trail shoes that might be lasting longer.
