Water sovereignty from the Andes to Palestine: On the global expansion of the national Israeli water company to Argentina and the formation of transnational solidarity

By Miriam Bartelmann. Mekorot, the national water company of Israel, is increasing its presence in Argentina through agreements over water management in ten provinces. This includes all provinces along the Andes, where struggles around water are linked to the extraction of resources. These struggles are often led by Indigenous populations and urban activists affected by water shortages and pollution through extractivist corporations. United by the opposition to the loss of autonomy over water, groups connect transnationally, learning from the experience of water apartheid in the occupied Palestinian territories and resist the loss of sovereignty over their water resources.

Dismantling Matter: Ukraine’s Attempts to Decolonize its Culture

By Nadiia Honcharenko. In Ukraine, there has been a strong public demand that certain elements of heritage should be removed from public space, as they contain distinct symbols of colonial and totalitarian domination and therefore aggravate the sense of trauma that Ukrainians are currently experiencing, as well as increase the pain of grief and loss caused by Russian aggression. This demand can be seen as both, reason and result of Ukraine’s struggle to reject the false and deeply violent so-called ‘brotherhood’ between Ukrainian and Russian society. Two main trends are evident: The desire of Ukrainians to free themselves from Russian shackles on one side and the attempts of the Russian political regime to slow this desire down, or even prevent it, on the other side.

Who keeps AI running? In Mexico, Carolina, Ricardo, and Laura perform the hidden labor that sustains our digital world. Their stories reveal how remote work promises flexibility - and delivers isolation and exhaustion.

Nahima Dávalos-Vázquez accompanied three remote workers in the #AI world and asks: Who has the right to be a body in this new era of work? ⬇

Who Measures the Value of Work? Artificial Intelligence and the New Transnational Job Precarity

By Nahima Dávalos-Vázquez. Over the last decade, the expansion of outsourcing companies, commonly known as digital labor platforms or talent clouds, has transformed how work is distributed and managed in the Global South. I met and accompanied the faces, bodies, and exhaustion of three remote workers during fieldwork for a digital and sensory ethnography. I followed their everyday life and registered their bodily and emotional states. What does it mean to work, to inhabit, and to resist in this new transregional scenario?
