Look at who you're talking about. These are fascists. They are incompetent in many ways but they understand money and power. Better than you do. Fascists don't make these kinds of mistakes -- and if they did -- their rich sponsors would pull them into line very quickly. There is no chance that this is purely an "incompetence" play. It's a feint.

I keep hearing people state how stupid they think the Trump admin is that they're shooting themselves in the foot economically with all these tariffs (especially on China). This is a silly analysis. The trade war is a cover for two things:

1. To create conflict domestically so a crack-down can be justified.

AND

2. To de-couple economically from China before a war.

Trump's trade battle with China puts US soybean farmers in peril - Beijing, which traditionally has snapped up at least a quarter of all soybeans grown in the U.S., is in effect boycotting them in retaliation for the high tariffs President Donald Trump has imposed on Chinese goods and to strengthen its hand in negotiations over a new overall trade deal.

It has left American soybean farmers fretting over not only this year’s crop but the long-term viability of their businesses, built in part on China’s once-insatiable appetite for U.S. beans.

“This is a five-alarm fire for our industry,” said Ragland, who leads the American Soybean Association trade group.

US soybean farmers caught in Trump's trade battle with China

American soybean farmers are worried about where they're going to sell their crops and whether they'll lose money this year because China hasn't bought any for months. Beijing traditionally has snapped up at least a quarter of all soybeans grown in the U.S. but it is in effect boycotting them. It's in retaliation for the high tariffs President Donald Trump has imposed on Chinese goods and to strengthen its hand in negotiations over a new overall trade deal. Farmers like Caleb Ragland in Kentucky hope there will be a trade deal soon, but some significant aid might be needed to help them survive. Trump says he's considering an aid package.

2) I'll just say it. Canada needs to quietly drop or reduce it's tariffs on Chinese goods with the understanding that China will drop agricultural tariffs on Canadian goods. The only reason we went down this road is because the Biden administration asked us too. The Trump administration is doing us no favours so I don't see why we need to continue. That said do it as quietly as possible, no need to rile up the neighbors. #tradewar
1) A few words on the #tradewar If anyone thinks Trump is going to drop Tariffs because it's hurting the US economy you're not paying attention. Trump has found a way to levy taxes without congress and convince the average American that someone else is paying. He'll ride that gravy train for as long as he can which is probably forever. Reciprocal tariffs aren't going to do anything period. Canada needs to quietly drop all but the most effective ones that hurt Canadians the least.
