So, fellow #Canadians...

Now that the Orange Menace has dropped all pretense of considering us a friend and ally - not that he was trying very hard before - announcing his intent to not renew the #CUSMA free-trade agreement, can we please stop tip-toeing around "but that might make him angry and he could take trade action against us"?

It was clear all along that he was going to take whatever action he wanted - tariffs, bans, refusal to open the Gordie Howe bridge, whatever - whenever he wanted, in violation of any agreement in place anyway.

So let's play hardball, for once.

How about a federal ban on US alcohol products? I'm disappointed my province rescinded theirs.

When he wants to slap high tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, how about we put a large levy on potash shipped to the US?

When he starts threatening our sovereignty, how about we slap a 100% surcharge on electricity exports to the US? Or even better, turn them off altogether?

When he bans import of Canadian timber, or pork, or whatever other product the US oligarchs whisper in his ear for market protection about, how about we turn off the gas and oil pipelines feeding US refineries?

How about it, Mr. Prime Minister?

Tomorrow, the European Parliament will vote on reducing tariffs on US goods as part of the EU–US trade deal agreed in August 2025. While this vote is limited in scope, it will in practice determine whether the broader trade deal moves forward. After careful consideration, the five Volt MEPs have decided to vote against this unbalanced deal. Here they explain why 👇
