I have a huge geeky soft spot for the Roland TR-909. It was the drum machine du jour when I came of age -- perhaps most famously used on Madonna's "Vogue." But there's also a lot more pep and dynamic with this one that's surprisingly robust. Fascinating snares and toms, a generous low thump in the kick that accounted for midrange in the way previous sets did not. I may have to write and record a fun retro track with the TR-909 sometime.

I went for two classics: my Sequential Circuits Six-Trak, my EMU Drumulator, and two fairly recent machines: the Behringer RD9 (Roland TR-909 clone) & the Donner D1.

Picture is from my Korg KR-55 Pro which I didn't use, just to throw everybody off... The D1 is what I used for the breakbeat (it is a sample based drum machine).

I'll have to tackle soon a track with a lot more #drummachine

The classic Roland TR909 (in form of the Behringer RD9 Rhythm Designer clone) not only drove the percussions, but was also played as a live instrument.

Only 2 basic patterns were programmed and all variations through the length of the recording are done by adding / removing certain beats, muting/unmuting parts and controlling the volume.
