I still wear a mask for four reasons:

1. I don't want to get sick (Covid, obviously, but I haven't gotten sick in four years, so not just Covid, especially this time of the year) If there was one lesson to learn from the pandemic, it's probably this one: masks make you healthier.

2. If I get sick, I don't want to spread my germs (this is an essential reason, and it's disheartening how it doesn't even cross the minds of so many Westerners).

3. As peer pressure is a huge deal in Japan, it's also a signal to my students who may want to wear a mask but are afraid to, that my classroom is a safe space for them to do it (not so much this time of the year, but in the Spring and Summer it's a different story).

4. OMG, I'm out of toothpicks and can't brush my teeth and that sesame seed is stuck between these two teeth!!!

All of these are true.
