@herrherrmann @mahryekuh mastodon.social is way too big, has unmoderated signups and is very badly moderated. That leads to a lot of problems for the Fediverse.

First and most obvious is the regular scam waves coming from m.s and other big servers with unmoderated signups.

But far worse is that such a big server is a big pain for well moderated servers: Moderators on smaller servers spend a lot of unpaid time moderating accounts and posts on m.s, while moderators on m.s get paid for moderating badly.

If a small server is moderated this badly, its easy to just block it as a whole, but if I blocked m.s that would probably lead to many people leaving my server and moving to m.s or another big, badly moderated server, because m.s is about 25% of the Fediverse.

Saying m.s is not part of the Fediverse is of course technically not true, but if you, like me, define the Fediverse as a non-central network, then a server hoarding 25% of the users does not fall under that definition.
