Warp Technique, “Nowhere Dub” (International Observer Remix) on International Observer’s album “Touched,” 2014

“Touched” is an album of remixes by #InternationalObserver. I’ve never done any digging around on the original artists, and when I started to for the purpose of this write up, I found that Warp Technique is a pretty cool #dub, sometimes ambient, electronic outfit. But you know what? I’d rather talk about International Observer - in fact, I’ve been waiting for the chance.

International Observer is #TomBailey, one third of the #NewWave / #SynthPop group #ThompsonTwins who embodied primary colors and synthetic textures, crafted into catchy little vehicles powered by funk, carrying witty lyrics by intelligent people knowingly communicating simply.

Bailey’s post-Thompson move into dub makes perfect sense to me: electronic manipulation to create soundscapes and textures, right?

TL;DR This is accessible dub, but not watered down. If you like dub, try anything Bailey has put out under the IO moniker, I bet you’ll dig it; if you liked Thompson Twins, give your boy a try.
