Just talked to Robert Hoevers, CEO of Squad Mobility, about their solar-powered city car. Panel on the roof. Battery underneath. Park it in the sun, drive it around town—it just keeps charging.

Live somewhere sunny? You literally never plug in. The average person drives 12km a day for errands. This does 150km max range. The math works.

5,300 pre-orders. €1.5M in European funding. Production starts next year.
Street legal. Crash tested.
Robert put it simply: "It's like a second car."

Exactly. Not for highway commutes but perfect for the grocery run, city trip, the school drop-off and all those short trips where driving a massive polluting vehicle makes zero sense.

Sometimes the obvious solution just needed someone to build it.

My 65 spitfire mkii just out of the swamp day one.

One of the many goofy tiny cars you see in Amsterdam. If all cars were this small an unobtrusive (and electric vs gas powered), I'd honestly listen to car people more, but no, they typically drive these massive pedestrian destroyers. This though? Economical. Compact. Adorable.

I commuted to work today with an enormous umbrella plant occupying the front seat and much of the back seat of my little Fiat 500 and I feel, on some level, that this dense forest canopy should have entitled me to use the HOV lane.
